Exploring Cape Horn & the Beagle Channel

For three weeks in January 2025, OGAP joined a multinational and multidisciplinary team to conduct an extensive survey of the marine and terrestial biota of the Cape Horn Region. Invited by the Cape Horn International Center (CHIC,) the OGAP team sampled extensively in the Beagle Channel and throughout Islas Cabo de Hornos. Using equipment stored in Puerto Williams after our 2022 Holland to Patagonia sampling voyage, we were able to collect data and samples from some of the remotest areas of Patagonia the intersection of three currents from the Pacific, Atlantic and Antartctic/Southern Ocean. The CHIC science and logstics team offered remarkable support and infrastructure in the southernmost settlement on the planet. We look forward to many future collaborations.
