Crossing the Labrador Sea to Greenland

Over 2,472 nautical miles, OGAP conducted sampling along the Nova Scotia Coast, Newfoundland, the Labrador Sea and along the coast of Greenland. In the prime early spring plankton season, the team of Dr. Leonid Moroz, Tyler Meade and Peter Molnar sailed aboard the the 56’ aluminum cutter Arctic Earth captained by the experienced team of Magnus Day and Julia Prinselaar. Persistent cold and late winter conditions did not deter multiple excellent plankton trawls and deploying onboard classification, documentation and sample preservation for later genomic analysis. Every voyage of this type yields both scientific and operational insights. One great outcome has been that Magnus and Julia have joined the team as key advisors on vessel operations and design as we start the refit of the SRV Icelos at KM Shipyard in Holland.
